Belfast Harbour, Education and Webster!
A key dimension of Belfast Harbour's Corporate Responsibility strategy and annual programme is Education. Central to our educational outreach with local schools is Webster the Port Monster, Belfast Harbour's very own environmental guardian.Created from the stories and pictures of the pupils at four Belfast schools, Webster has become the principle communicational tool for Belfast Harbour's engagement with schoolchildren on environmental issues and the history of the Port.
Webster's message is simple - Reduce, Re-use, Recycle and Remember to switch off!
Webster's Waterworks
Two key projects supported by Belfast Harbour in 2010 feature Webster prominently. The first is Webster's Waterworks in conjunction with the Ulster Orchestra. 12 Belfast-based schools will take part in green themed workshops before taking part in a special concert which will feature Webster in the Ulster Hall on the 28th May. Webster will be on hand to pick a willing pupil to get up on stage and to conduct the Orchestra!Webster's Green Teacher of the Year 2011
Webster will again be looking forward to identifying Northern Ireland's Greenest Teacher in 2011. Following on from the success of the 2010 Awards when both Mr. Stevenson from Loughview Primary School, Newtownbreda, and Mrs McGauley from Blessed Patrick O’Loughran Primary School in Castlecaulfield, Co. Tyrone, scooped the top prize in the Northern Ireland-wide search for the primary school teacher who showed most leadership and took most responsibility for the environment.
Belfast Harbour in conjunction with Action Renewables will be launching the 2011 Awards in May with a closing date planned for October 1st. The six schools with the Greenest credentials will then be invited to take part in an Environmental Challenge Day in W5 in November hosted by the Environment Minister and Webster.
