| Despite the closure
of Belfast West Power Station and Irish Fertiliser Industries during
2002, the Port recorded a satisfactory trading performance with record
tonnages in Grain and Animal Feeds, Aggregates, Peat, Bark, Timber
and Steel helping to off-set declines in Roll on/Roll off freight
and passengers using the Port’s ferry services. |

| Early in 2003 Norse Merchant Ferries’ parent
company, Cenargo, filed
for Chapter 11 protection from creditors in the US and subsequently,
Norse Merchant Ferries was placed in administration in the UK. The
company traded successfully in 2002 and, despite these difficulties,
continues to do so in 2003. |
