The Board is committed to promoting
equality of opportunity and good relations.
The Board’s Equality Scheme,
which details how it will comply with its statutory duties under
Section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998, was formally approved
by the Equality Commission at the end of 2001.
Equality Scheme
The Equality
Scheme (the Scheme) for implementing the statutory duties imposed by
section 75 of the Northern Ireland Act 1998.
The Scheme highlights the Commissioners’ commitment to the effective
implementation, monitoring and reviewing progress of the statutory duties
referred to above with regard to all its functions, powers and duties relating
to Northern Ireland.
Such resources,
internal arrangements, training and communications as are necessary
to implement, monitor and review the progress of the Scheme will be
made available effectively and on time by the Commissioners.
The recruitment
of an Equality Officer earlier this year has facilitated progress in
the implementation of the scheme following major staffing and organizational
changes in 2002.
