| Marine Safety Policy |

| As part of their
commitment to facilitating the safe navigation and operation of vessels
within the Port of Belfast. |
|
| |
|
B.H.C. Will:-
|
|
 |
1. |
Development and
maintain an effective Marine Safety Management System to enable the
Port to undertake and regulate marine operations in a way that safeguards
the Port, its users, the public and the environment.
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
2. |
Use risk assessment
techniques to identify hazards and risks within the port ant put
in place suitable risk control measures to ensure that the risks
identified are As Low as Reasonably Practicable and that the appropriate
emergency plans
are in place and are well practiced.

| |
|
|
| |
3. |
Monitor and manage
the navigation of vessels within the Port’s Limits.
|
|
| |
|
|
|
| |
4. |
Consult widely
with the employees, Port users and other relevant stakeholders in
respect of marine safety issues.
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
5. |
Ensure that an
efficient, safe and appropriate level of pilotage is available in
accordance with the Pilotage Act 1987.
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
6. |
Undertake hydrographical
surveys and maintenance dredging to ensure that the hydrographic
regime is protected.
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
7. |
Place and maintain
navigational marks where they will be of best advantage
to the vessels.
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
8. |
Promulgate any
relevant marine safety information to Port users.
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
9. |
Regularly review
the effectiveness of the Port’s legal powers, byelaws and directions
in respect of marine safety.
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
10. |
Evaluate the
safety performance of the Port through reporting systems contained
within the Marine Safety Management System.
|
|
| |
|
|
| |
11. |
Employ suitably
qualified personnel and provide the necessary training to ensure
that they are competent within the functions they are required to
perform and have sufficient resources to implement procedures and
systems effectively.

|
|
| |
12. |
Ensure that craft
used within the Port have the required certification and are fit
for the purpose and the crew are appropriately trained and qualified
for the tasks they are likely to perform. |
|
