Webster's Green Teacher of the Year Awards
Following the success of 2009's Webster's Green Teacher of the Year, Belfast Harbour and Action Renewables have again started the search for Northern Ireland's Greenest Teacher.
Pupils from the 900 Primary Schools across Northern Ireland will have the opportunity to shine the spotlight on the environmental credentials of their Teacher or the School Principal.
In 2009, 1 in 7 Primary Schools across the region took part in the competition with six schools/teachers being shortlisted for the accolade of being Belfast Harbour's Green Teacher of the Year. Mrs Jill Crosbie, from Donemana PS in Strabane, was the overall winner of the Award. Mrs Crosbie, who has been teaching at Donemana for six years, picked up the award following a green challenge day in W5 which was attended by the teachers and pupils from the six shortlisted schools.
Congratulating the six teachers and schools involved in the final, Roy Adair, CEO of Belfast Harbour said: -
"Belfast Harbour is committed to creating a greener environment. As the first Harbour Authority in the world to be accredited as Carbon Neutral in 2008, our commitment has continued with an environmental programmes for schools, supported by Webster, which is helping children learn about the Port and green issues".
Speaking at the event, Environment Minister Edwin Poots said: -
"I would like to congratulate every school who has participated in the Green Teacher of the Year Award. The award is a fantastic initiative that serves to highlight the exemplary work teachers and pupils are undertaking to build practical and innovative measures into their schools' policies to better our environment".
