Belfast Harbour is Northern Ireland’s principal container handling port and is the second largest on the island of Ireland. In 2009, over 125,000 container units were handled at the port.Belfast Harbour has two container terminals:
- VT3 operated by Peel Ports
- Belfast Container Terminal (BCT) operated by Irish Continental Group
Container shipping provides Northern Ireland commerce and industry with its trading connectivity to the rest of the globe. The port handles on average 11 calls per week by regular container shipping services, operating between Belfast and the major mainland European hub ports of Rotterdam, Antwerp, and Le Havre. These same regular services also link Belfast with the GB market via the ports of Liverpool, Greenock, Felixstowe and Southampton.
