In 2015 Belfast Harbour worked with both RSPB and Young at Art on an environmental project which focused on birdlife and the wider environment of Belfast Harbour. The project was based in The RSPB’s Window on Wildlife (WOW) nature reserve in the Harbour Estate. Each of the participating ten schools received a free 90-minute educational session at WOW, including an interactive workshop, an educational performance, a tour of the reserve and curriculum-linked education activities. Pupils also received follow up activities and resources following their visit.

During Spring 2016 Belfast Harbour, with help from The Conservation Volunteers, provided tenants within the Harbour Estate with planters and floral displays outside their office spaces as a way to improve the local environment and increase biodiversity. The scheme was an idea that came out of a tenant Biodiversity Workshop and twelve business took part in the pilot scheme including The Food Standards Agency, Bank of Ireland, Belfast City Council Port Health and George Best Belfast City Airport.
