History & Heritage
2022 marked the 175th anniversary of establishment of Belfast Harbour Commissioners. However, the origins of Belfast as a port can be traced back to 1613, when, during the reign of James I, the town was incorporated as a borough by royal charter, with provision for the establishment of a wharf or quay.
