NEW BERTHS ADDED AS REFURBISHED BELFAST HARBOUR MARINA REOPENS
Belfast Harbour Marina has reopened after a refurbishment that has created new berths for yachts and recreational vessels.
The project to expand the marina, which is located between Titanic Belfast and the SSE Arena, has extended the total length of its pontoons from 775 metres to over 807 metres, increasing the total number of berths from 60 to 67, each with water and pay-as-you-go electricity connections. Alongside the berthing extension, critical infrastructure at the marina has undergone refurbishment to support year-round operations. The addition of restraint piles and the extension of Pontoon D have enabled the restoration of 12 berths that were previously limited during winter months and adverse weather events.
Driven by growing demand over the past two decades, the marina has evolved through a series of phased developments to meet increased interest in leisure berthing amongst visitors to Belfast. Expansions in 2009 and 2019 supported major events such as the Tall Ships, while the latest 2026 refurbishment responds to seasonal increases in demand from both long-term berth holders and visiting vessels.
The marina can handle recreational vessels up to 25 metres and has a maximum draught of 3.7m, with the marina building also offering showers, kitchen and laundry facilities, as well as free wi-fi.
It achieved Blue Flag accreditation for the first time in 2025, recognising the marina’s commitment to high standards in environmental management and facilities.
Duncan Paterson, Marina Manager, Belfast Harbour said: “Demand to use the marina is extremely strong, with a solid base of long-term berth holders alongside visiting leisure craft, and that’s driving ongoing discussions around further expansion.
“Ultimately, this isn’t just about berths, it’s about enhancing the waterfront. The marina plays a key role in attracting visitors, supporting local businesses, and contributing to Belfast’s maritime heritage. With its prime location, it has real potential to increase tourism, footfall, and even create both direct and indirect employment opportunities in the area.”
