Belfast Harbour has reported that trade handled by the Port during 2012 rose to a record 19.6m tonnes, up 11% on the previous year.

Antrim teacher wins gold for going 'green' Mrs. Jocelyn Brown from Ballycraigy Primary School claimed the gold prize in the Northern Ireland-wide search for primary school teachers who take responsibility for the environment and eco issues. Jocelyn has been involved with a number of green activities with her pupils including harvesting school crops for soup, gardening competitions, bird watching, setting up a composting area, organizing a 'walk to school week' and a weekly Green Fingers Club.
With only weeks to go, the race is on for primary school pupils throughout Northern Ireland to nominate their 'Green Teacher of the Year' as the final leg of the competition comes to a close on 19th October. This unique competition organised by Belfast Harbour and Action Renewables, rewards primary school teachers for taking responsibility for the environment and eco issues.
KIN from Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club won the 2012 Edinburgh Cup on Saturday 7th July, taking the title after three highly competitive days sailing in Belfast Lough. Crewed by the 2000 Edinburgh Cup Winning team of Simon Brien, Mark Brien and David Gomes, KIN finished ahead of a strong international Dragon fleet of 45 yachts from 10 countries.
The Edinburgh Cup has been the Class Championship for the British Dragon Class of sailing vessels since 1949.For the first time since 2000, Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club will be hosting the prestigious Championships. 45 Dragon boats will contest the Championships which has attracted international competitors from Germany, Japan, Netherlands, Portugal, Australia, Denmark, Monaco, Estonia, the UK and Ireland.
Belfast Harbour, Northern Ireland's largest port, has reported improved turnover and profit during 2010-2011. The data, contained in the Harbour's latest Annual Report, shows a 2% rise in Profit before Taxation to £17.8m and a 4% increase in Turnover to £36.1m.
A double Olympic gold medal winner and former world champion is leading a strong international field of sailors travelling to Belfast to take part in what is set to be one of the largest Dragon Class yachting events of its kind. Sponsored by Belfast Harbour, Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club is hosting the 2012 Edinburgh Cup, the UK Dragon Boat Championships, which will take place on Belfast Lough from 4th July-7th July.
