KIN lifts the Edinburgh Cup!

KIN from Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club won the 2012 Edinburgh Cup on Saturday 7th July, taking the title after three highly competitive days sailing in Belfast Lough. Crewed by the 2000 Edinburgh Cup Winning team of Simon Brien, Mark Brien and David Gomes, KIN finished ahead of a strong international Dragon fleet of 45 yachts from 10 countries.

The Edinburgh Cup, one of the largest Dragon Class yachting events of its kind in the world, was hosted by Royal North of Ireland Yacht Club [for the first time since 2000] and sponsored by Belfast Harbour. Martin Byrne in JAGUAR from RSTGYC finished second and Lawrie Smith (medal winner in the Barcelona Olympics) in ALFIE from Glandore came third in the event which began on Wednesday 4th July. Double Olympic gold medal winner and former world champion, Denmark’s Poul Ricard Hoj Jensen finished seventh in DANISH BLUE.
